Mayor Presents 2014 Community Awards Recognizing Citizens and Businesses

Mayor John Noak recognized local residents and business owners at his annual "State of the Village" address on Tuesday.

Mayor John Noak presented the 2014 Community Awards during his “State of the Village address” before the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.

Residents were recognized for their dedication and service toward advancing the community and local economy.

“Government cannot be effective without exceptional partners,” the mayor said. “These award recipients have been invaluable to the success of our community,”

The Citizen of the Year Award - Thomas Giganti

In memory of the late Thomas Giganti, Mayor Noak presented this award to his sons. Tom was a longtime resident of Romeoville. He served in the United States Army National Guard. He was recognized for his dedication and service to the community which included participation with Youth Baseball and Spartan Football, member of the Citizen’s Police Academy. In addition, Tom was a Boy Scouts of America Scout Master and a crossing guard for the Village of Romeoville.

Event Recognition

Supermanny 5K Shuffle accepted by Bob Kalnicky from Community Service Council of Northern Will County and Holly Bueno, Manny’s mother, accepted the award. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness and funds for Cerebal Palsy. Over 500 people attended, raising $18,000 for 3-year-old Manny.

2014 Small Business of the Year - Valley View Dental

Dr. Khurana and staff were present to accept the award. Dr. Singh and Dr. Khurana opened their Valley View Dental practice in 1999. They are members of the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce and are also active in the community.

2014 Large Business of the Year - Fed Ex

Chris Chialdikas and Scott Haeger accepted the award. Fed Ex at 920 W. Taylor Road has called Romeoville home since 2013. The increase in demand has prompted them to begin a 70,000-square-foot expansion. Fed Ex is also active in the community.
