Started by Tim Ireland

We fear that the current leader and a series of Chairmen for the Conservative Party have shown a less-than-stringent approach to allegations of bullying and other forms of harassment from their members, activists, campaign executives and MPs. Often, complainants are fobbed off with the advice that they contact police, and no internal inquiry is conducted (the reasoning presumably being that if no prosecution is likely, there isn't a problem). There are documented examples of complaints not being acted on by the Chairman, and instead forwarded to the subject(s) of the complaint. There was even an incident where one Chairman was directly involved in the alleged bullying. We, the undersigned, appeal to David Cameron to commission an independent inquiry into how the Conservative Party has handled bullying/harassment complaints over the past decade, and what measures might be taken to improve current protocols and how they are followed. We ask this for the protection of its members and the wider electorate. A public consultation with victims of alleged bullying/harassment should be central to this process, as there will be cases where no internal record of their complaint exists/survives.
