Unlike other competing rollover data programs, which have an expiration date, Sprint’s won’t let your data reserve expire, and you can keep up to 30GB of data. As before, the three new prepaid plans all have unlimited talk and text and only differ in how much rolling data you get on a monthly basis. Paying $35 a month gets you 1GB of rolling data, while $45 will get you 3GB, and $55 bumps that up to 6GB of rolling data.
As alluded to earlier, however, there is some fine print to read over — namely, that these plans are available exclusively from Best Buy. There’s no indication whether this will change in the near future, but for now, you can’t just walk into a Sprint store and expect to buy these new plans.
In addition, customers who purchased a Sprint prepaid plan before May 31 will not be grandfathered in, so they will have to “affirmatively migrate” to a Sprint prepaid plan with rolling data, as Sprint puts it.
Finally, in an unrelated note, Sprint announced that those on its prepaid plans can go into their nearest Best Buy store and be pre-qualified to upgrade to a Sprint postpaid smartphone lease, so long as they’ve made 9 consecutive on-time monthly plan payments. As with the new prepaid rolling data plans, this promotion is exclusive, and it’s only available through Sprint. However, the carrier’s lease options include a healthy selection of smartphones, such as the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, HTC One M9, LG G4, and Samsung Galaxy S6, among many others.
Sprint has been on somewhat of a roll as of late, with the carrier announcing back in May it added 1.2 million subscribers, the highest total in three years.
