This turkey contest was a real stuffing.
Competitive eater Joey Chestnut set another new mark for gluttony by emerging victorious at Saturday’s Foxwoods World Turkey-Eating Championship after consuming a record 9.35 pounds of turkey.
“I stuck with my plan going for the bottom meat first then got the breasts and then just drank and drank and swallowed,” a fatigued Chestnut said after the event. “It’s before Thanksgiving when everybody is a competitive eater. Turkey is awesome. I’m just happy to be here and was able to win today.”
The participants were each handed a fully cooked 20-pound turkey and each had to figure out the best way to carve through it with their hands to get as much meat off the bone and in their mouth as possible.
Major League Eating, which sponsored the contest at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., bills the attraction featuring 10 participants as “a battle of technique, speed, capacity and Thanksgiving spirit.”
It also tests digestion and stamina.
“I waddled away with the win today, 9.35 pounds of turkey in ten minutes @FoxwoodsCT a nap sounds amazing!!” Chestnut tweeted after the contest.
Chestnut won the $5,000 grand prize as he almost doubled the previous high of 5.25 pounds set by Sonya Thomas in 2011.
Hopefully, he left enough room for Thursday.
