Stamford Man Seen Driving Erratically Faces DUI, Drug Possession Charges

Greenwich Police say the driver was 'drifting between lanes' when he was stopped by officers.

A Stamford man s facing a number of charges including driving under the influence and drug possession charges after Greenwich Police say he was observed driving erratically, at inconsistent speeds and drifting between lanes on East Putnam Avenue near the Old Greenwich - Stamford border.

It was about 1:15 a.m. April 4 when officers saw the motorist as he drove in the area of 1800 E. Putnam Ave. in Old Greenwich.

When police stopped the man, they found he had an odor of alcoholic beverages and bloodshot eyes, and he then failed field sobriety tests, according to a police report. Police said the man also had a white powdery substance that tested positive as cocaine.

William U. Gonzalez-Barrera, 33, of Henry Street, Stamford, was charged with driving under the influence, operating without a license, failure to maintain lane, failure to illuminate rear marker and possession of narcotics. Gonzalez-Barrera was released after posting a $300 bond and was scheduled to appear April 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
