New Jessica Jones teaser reveals hungover hero

A follow up to the initial teaser for Marvel’s upcoming Netflix-exclusive series Jessica Jones says a lot about the new-to-TV character in just 48 seconds.

A hardened former superhero who suffers from PTSD, Jones starts a private detective company in New York City, where she takes on clients more to pay her rent than save the world.

In the teaser, Jones appears passed out with her clothes on at 2:59 pm before crushing her alarm clock with a single squeeze of her lithe hand when it goes off at 3:00 — just as it appears she crushed a bottle and a half of whiskey the previous evening.

“Not exactly a morning person,” reads the series’ Facebook post, where the short video was shared.

It’s hard to tell from the quick clip — given that we don’t see her face in the video — but the much-anticipated series stars Krysten Ritter as Jones. Ritter has previously a gotten praise for her roles in Breaking Bad, and Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23. Other players in the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration include Dr. Who actor David Tennant, Matrix actress Carrie Ann Moss, and Halo: Nightfall actor Mike Colter.

The new show is the second in a line of four Marvel universe TV shows on Netflix, following the widely-acclaimed Daredevil series, and leading up to a four-hero Defenders series which will include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

The progression mirrors Marvel’s silver screen release style, with many characters making early cameos before getting their own dedicated air time. Jessica Jones will feature Colter as Luke Cage, who will eventually spin off to get his own series. Presumably, that series will do the same thing with a yet-to-be-cast Iron Fist, before all four characters will combine to form The Defenders.

Jessica Jones is set to premiere November 20 on Netflix, and by all accounts should be an equally bingeable follow up to Daredevil, with the same darker undertones we’ve come to love from the serialized portrayal of Marvel’s expansive universe.

Thor: Love and Thunder teaser introduces a new goddess
Natalie Portman in Thor: Love and Thunder.

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness just a few weeks away, it was inevitable that a trailer for Marvel's follow-up film would debut beforehand. And now, fans have their first look at Thor: Love and Thunder. This is the first MCU solo franchise to get a fourth film, although it might be a misnomer to call Love and Thunder a solo movie. After all, the Guardians of the Galaxy are here, and so is the new Thor.

As seen in the new teaser trailer, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) has become the Mighty Thor, much to the surprise of Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth). It all comes down to the enchantment on Thor's hammer, Mjölnir. To refresh your memory, it states that “Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” Jane has proven worthy, but that doesn't explain who reforged Mjölnir ... or why.

How to update your new Disney+ parental controls
The Defenders look at the camera in an elevator in The Defenders.

You may have heard that the Marvel TV shows that were formerly at home on Netflix have all come to Disney+ this week. There's just one hitch for the most family-friendly streaming service: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher are all TV-MA. And let's just say that they feature characters doing some very un-Disney-like things to each other. Sex and violence reach near R-rated levels, which is part of the appeal of these shows. That said, some parents may have legitimate concerns about what their children watch. Fortunately, we're here to help!

Disney foresaw some of these potential problems when it introduced its new Disney+ parental controls. It's also why Disney+ is automatically asking users to update their parental preferences when they log into the site. Keep in mind that the default setting is TV-14. If you don't opt to update any of your settings or if you click Not Now, then nothing will change. However, this is also your easiest opportunity to put the setting on TV-MA for everything that Disney+ has to offer. And make no mistake, these Marvel shows will probably not be the last mature content to be added in the future.

Marvel reveals more of Moon Knight in new featurette
A scene from Marvel's Moon Knight.

For the uninitiated, Marvel's title character from Moon Knight looks a lot like Batman in a white costume. That's fair, to a certain extent. Comic book fans have been making that comparison since Doug Moench and Don Perlin created Moon Knight in 1975. But that's also why Marvel Studios' upcoming adaptation is leaning into the things that separate Moon Knight from the Dark Knight. This show will play up two of the key aspects behind Moon Knight: His supernatural connection with Khonshu (the Egyptian god of the moon) and his own deteriorating mental health.

In a new video from Marvel Studios, Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and May Calamawy, join Kevin Feige and director Mohamed Diab as they introduce the character to new viewers. There's also some fresh footage of Steven Grant (Isaac) as he transforms into Moon Knight and a peek at the show's Egyptian setting.
