A hardened former superhero who suffers from PTSD, Jones starts a private detective company in New York City, where she takes on clients more to pay her rent than save the world.
In the teaser, Jones appears passed out with her clothes on at 2:59 pm before crushing her alarm clock with a single squeeze of her lithe hand when it goes off at 3:00 — just as it appears she crushed a bottle and a half of whiskey the previous evening.
“Not exactly a morning person,” reads the series’ Facebook post, where the short video was shared.
It’s hard to tell from the quick clip — given that we don’t see her face in the video — but the much-anticipated series stars Krysten Ritter as Jones. Ritter has previously a gotten praise for her roles in Breaking Bad, and Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23. Other players in the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration include Dr. Who actor David Tennant, Matrix actress Carrie Ann Moss, and Halo: Nightfall actor Mike Colter.
The new show is the second in a line of four Marvel universe TV shows on Netflix, following the widely-acclaimed Daredevil series, and leading up to a four-hero Defenders series which will include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
The progression mirrors Marvel’s silver screen release style, with many characters making early cameos before getting their own dedicated air time. Jessica Jones will feature Colter as Luke Cage, who will eventually spin off to get his own series. Presumably, that series will do the same thing with a yet-to-be-cast Iron Fist, before all four characters will combine to form The Defenders.
Jessica Jones is set to premiere November 20 on Netflix, and by all accounts should be an equally bingeable follow up to Daredevil, with the same darker undertones we’ve come to love from the serialized portrayal of Marvel’s expansive universe.
