Panasonic CM1 Gallery Images: The smartphone camera gets serious

Smartphones with cameras are a dime a dozen nowadays (to be honest, you might be hard-pressed to find a smartphone without a camera nowadays), but with their rather tiny imaging sensors, the quality of photos captured with these devices often falls short compared to dedicated cameras, which more often than not contain much larger sensors. Panasonic is looking to turn the tide with their unique CM1 smartphone, which, as most of you know, contains some serious camera technology -- namely, a large 1-inch CMOS sensor and bright 28mm-eq. f/2.8 lens. We recently shared our hands-on first impressions with this new breed of hybrid smartphone-meets-camera device, and now we're bringing you an initial selection of real-world gallery photos ahead of our upcoming Shooter's Report.
This 1-inch chip inside the Panasonic CM1, like those seen in high-end premium compact cameras such as the Sony RX100 III (RX100 II vs CM1) and Canon G7X (G7X vs CM1), is not only large by smartphone standards, but also, until recently, rather large by compact camera standards. The ability to cram such a huge sensor into these smaller cameras has really seen the level of image quality from pocketable cameras take a noticeable boost. Now, with the convergence of a smartphone and a large-sensor compact camera, the ability to have a high-quality camera that also provides connectivity to mobile photo sharing services and social networking that's become commonplace through smartphones is easier than ever.
