Families Across Tri-State Area Celebrate Mother's Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Families across the Tri-State area celebrated mom this Sunday.

As CBS2's Ilana Gold reported, restaurants across Manhattan were packed Sunday with Mother's Day reservations.

"This is the most beautiful place to be for Mother's Day," said Jeannie Newman, of Los Angeles.

In Chelsea, Newman's daughter treated her to Sunday brunch.

"My mom always teaches me how to be a lady and how to be put together and be more like her," said Hillary Newman.

Down the block, Gold ran into Teresa Lloyd and her daughter Joy wearing matching shirts.

"(Did you plan this?) Yes, we planned outfits for Mother's Day," said Lloyd, of Baltimore. "I am really enjoying myself. This is the best Mother's Day ever."

The two traveled from Baltimore to celebrate the holiday, and Lloyd was showered with flowers and presents.

"It's very exciting, she did everything for me growing up so it's nice to have something special for her on her special day," Joy Lloyd said.

Workers at a flower shop in Tribeca could barely keep up with the orders. That's where Louis Marcais was buying a bouquet for his wife with their 5-month-old son, Henry.

"This is her first Mother's Day," he said. "(How special of a day is this for her?) It's been very special."

But the day wasn't all about gifts, many families were just happy to spend time together.

"It's a nice day, Sunday, to take time and just relax and be a mom, right," said Michaela Siegel, of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.

Cheryl Family spent her day with her mother and sister cheering on her son Austin at his baseball game in the West Village.

"(How much does it mean to you to watch your son?) Well a couple of years ago, he hit a grand slam home run on Mother's Day right when I showed up. It hasn't happened yet today, but we're keeping our fingers crossed," she said.

For them, it's a Mother's Day tradition.

"Every Mother's Day is special, especially when we're all together," said Pam Family, of Linwood, New Jersey.

And something they hope to continue for years to come.
