Sandiganbayan allows Bong Revilla to visit son Jolo

(Updated 12:40 p.m.) Detained Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. will be allowed to visit his son Jolo today at the hospital on Tuesday, after the Sandiganbayan allowed him a temporary five-hour furlough.

The anti-graft court's First Division granted Revilla's urgent motion to visit his son, Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, at the Asian Hospital from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The elder Revilla is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center over allegations of graft and plunder for supposedly siphoning off millions in public funds to bogus NGOs owned by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.

The younger Revilla is suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper right chest after he allegedly accidentally fired his gun while he was cleaning it Saturday morning at their home.

Conditions

The anti-graft court, however, issued several conditions on Revilla's visit to his son, including limiting the lawmaker's access to communication devices, and forbidding him from granting interviews.

"The use of any means of communications and electronics (phones, cell phones, Internet) by the accused and those who will accompany him shall be under the control and supervision of the PNP. Media and other news interviews shall not be allowed," the resolution, issued Tuesday, said.

In a chance interview with reporters following the hearing, Revilla's lawyer Atty. Ramon Esguerra thanked the court for "kindly granting" the urgent motion.

Esguerra added that while Jolo is currently stable, he still suffers from internal bleeding. Revilla's lawyers said they will file an additional motion if Jolo's condition worsens.

"It really depends on the situation of Vice Gov. Jolo. If the condition worsens, then there is a need for the good senator to ask the court [and the] request will be made accordingly. If the condition worsens, we will go back to the court and again plead for compassion so the court will allow the father to visit his son," Esguerra said.

When asked how the elder Revilla is doing, his lawyer said the senator felt helpless since he was not around during the unfortunate incident.

"The gunshot wound is mortal that could have caused his [Jolo's] life. You can imagine the helplessness if not the hopelessness of the senator not being with his son the very momemnt this accident happened," he said. — KG/RSJ, GMA News
