After finding fame as a 16-year-old model, Kelly Brook landed a job as a presenter on The Big Breakfast. She has since carved out an acting career, starring in Piranha 3D and Keith Lemon: The Film. Next year she will be seen in US comedy series One Big Happy and she recently launched her own fragrance, Audition. Kelly, 34, lives between Los Angeles and Kent.

Congratulations on your new fragrance. What made you decide to launch one?

I had a fragrance a few years back but it was a limited edition. So when this opportunity came up, I thought it would be lovely to get involved again. I called it Audition because as an actress, I was always auditioning and spraying on perfume was the last thing I did before I left the house to feel confident.

You are well-known for your figure. Does that make you feel under pressure to keep slim?

No. I’m not aspiring to be a 20-year-old waif and appeal to 15-year-old girls. I’m a woman and want to appeal to women my age. I am realistic about where I am in my life. I’m nearly 35, curvy and very happy with myself.

I don’t feel I am unhealthy or that I need to go on a diet. I don’t know why people make negative comments

You have been unfairly criticised about your weight recently. How do you deal with that?

I’m really shocked by it. I’m a strong, healthy girl. I go to the gym and work out and I’m also a trained dancer. I don’t feel I am unhealthy or that I need to go on a diet. I don’t know why people make such negative comments.

You are often pictured going to the gym. How often do you work out?

When I was in LA recently, I was working out every day.

You’re about to star in a new series for NBC in America called One Big Happy…

Yes, it’s a sitcom produced by Ellen DeGeneres. I’m so excited. I’ve started filming and I’ll be in LA until next year.

You’ve said in the past you’ve found it difficult to get acting work in the UK…

I think people feel I can’t play believable characters because everyone knows too much about me and my personal life. In America, it’s easier to get acting jobs because no one knows anything about me.

What is the worst job you did before you became famous?

I played a girlfriend with a great body and an ugly face for a magazine photo story. I had to pose with a paper bag over my head all day.

Audition by Kelly Brook (50ml, £14.95; 100ml, £19.95) is available from Tesco now. Go to www.tesco.com or call 0800 505 555.
