Remove Excess Salt from Nuts by Shaking Them In a Paper Bag

Nuts—and some legumes masquerading as nuts—are a great snack to have around, but sometimes they can be way too salty. Some paper towels, a paper bag, and a few good shakes will help.

Maybe you accidentally bought the salted nuts at the store and didn’t realize it. Or maybe you did want a little salt, but when you tried them it was still more than you wanted. Rinsing them will just make them soggy, so what can you do? Commenter m_j_s at The Kitchn suggests you put them in a paper bag with some crumpled up paper towels and shake them like crazy. The friction of the paper towels will pull off a lot of the excess salt so you can get back to snacking or trying out that recipe. Of course, salt isn’t necessarily bad for you, but you don’t want the salt completely overpowering your taste buds. If they are really bad, you can do the rinsing technique, but make sure you follow up by toasting them in your oven to dry them out.
