LaCie has always catered to Mac users with its line of external hard drives, and the company is wasting no time in building one designed for the do-everything USB-C port on Apple's new MacBook. Today LaCie announced that it will ship a new model of the Porsche Design Mobile Drive sometime next quarter in capacities of 500GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Pricing details aren't available yet, but considering this is the first external drive perfectly suited for Apple's latest Mac, LaCie could easily charge more than the $69.99 price these drives start at today.

At least you won't need an adapter for it, though there's one included in the box for backwards compatibility with USB 3 and USB 2 ports. Like many of LaCie's other products, the drive features an aluminum enclosure — though you're limited to silver when it comes to color. Sorry, space gray and gold MacBook buyers. And no, you won't get Thunderbolt speeds (LaCie says the Porsche Design Mobile Drive "delivers up to 100MB per second"), but this is the future Apple has chosen. It's only a matter of time before Seagate, Western Digital, and everyone else adds USB-C to their own drives.
