Labour Day tourist numbers rise

May 02, 2015

The overall number of tourist arrivals on Labour Day rose 22% year-on-year, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So said today.

Mainland visitors rose 24% while the number of visitors from other places rose 14.7%, he said, but stressed that it is difficult to gauge the situation with figures from a single day.

The bureau will closely monitor overall figures, including those related to consumption and accommodation, and decide appropriate measures to promote sustainable tourism.

Alongside the newly launched HAPPY@hongkong super JETSO promotion campaign introduced with the private sector to stimulate consumption, the community should join hands to create a welcoming environment for tourists.

Mr So today reached out to the public in Ping Shek Estate today to promote the Government’s political reform proposal. He said that most citizens he met showed support for the plan to elect the Chief Executive by universal suffrage in 2017.
