Audi And Porsche Will Reportedly Collaborate On New V6 And V8 Units

The two German manufacturers will allegedly work together in order to develop a new generation of V6 and V8 petrol engines.

According to Autocar, these new powerplants are set to replace the aging V6 and V8 units found on various Audi and Porsche models. The future engines will based around a 90deg architecture and are planned to feature a common 500cc individual cylinder capacity, giving the V6 module a displacement of 3.0-liters, whilst the V8 will sport a 4.0-litres arrangement.

Moreover, the magazine continues stating that although the units will feature normal gas-driven turbochargers to begin with, it’s possible that the automakers will introduce electric turbocharging in the later stages of production.

Aditionally, a modular development could allow the engines to be scaled down to smaller capacities for various uses – especially the V6 unit. All in all, the new family of engines is believed to find its way in future Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Bentley and possibly Lamborghini models, although the project is still in its early stages of development.
