The game comes to Windows and tablets with a fresh coat of paint for its 15 year anniversary.
The main point of any HD remake is to refine an old idea. This often means taking an old but beloved title and upgrading it for a new generation, graphically or even going so far as to tighten the gameplay. While there have been many successes and failures, Heroes of Might & Magic III – HD Edition accomplishes a truly catastrophic misunderstanding of what an HD Edition should truly be. Not only does it completely fail to improve anything, but this version actually detracts from the experience of playing this classic.
2015 may go down in history as being the year of the remakes. With classic greats being remastered, given facelift and having old injuries fixed, if you’ve missed some game from the days of old now is a great time to pick up something on the cheap. There are a host of services all competing for those dollars too, where online retailers like Steam offer a great clearinghouse for new, Early Access, and remastered old games. But just because something is being offered for sale and labeled as “new” does not necessarily mean that it is improved. And such is the case with Heroes of Might & Magic III – HD Edition.
Heroes of Might & Magic 3 is considered by many fans as one of the best games in the series, and a remastered edition releases this week. See if this strategy / RPG hybrid still stands up after 15 years.
Just buy the complete version on gog. It has all the expansions and random world generators. This version's "upgrades" are not worth it.
