Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac star in a highly anticipated movie this year, one that's been shrouded in mystery. There will be robots, betrayal and secrets.

No, not "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (though the two will co-star in that, or so we hear, even if Gleeson won't actually confirm it). We're talking about "Ex Machina," which had its North American debut at South by Southwest Film Festival Saturday night (March 14). To say the film, Alex Garland's directorial debut (Garland wrote "28 Days Later" and "Dredd," among others), was well-received by the fest's audience would be an insane understatement.

We're being purposefully vague here: "Ex Machina" follows a young coder (Gleeson) who wins a lottery to spend a week at his reclusive boss' (Isaac) vast estate. When he gets there, he finds that he's to be the human component in a Turing Test (you saw "The Imitation Game," you remember this). He enters into a series of sessions with robot Ava (Alicia Vikander) to find out if she's truly the perfect example of artificial intelligence.

Things, as they tend to do, go awry.
