Fact: working out helps you live longer. Another fact: parts of your workout routine can actually age your skin. So how can we stay youthful and youthful looking?

Dr. Hadley King, MD, a dermatologist at NYC’s Skinney Medspa advises patients first refrain from squinting. “When you do strenuous workouts, you tend to grunt and strain, causing you to squint or raise your brow. Over time, you will see an increase of those fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and also the forehead.” So the next time you’re in chair pose at yoga or a plié at barre class, remember to relax.

Another habit to break: running on hard surfaces. “Runners tend to look older than they should because of the impact the face takes when you are bouncing from leg to leg on hard pavement,” says Dr. King. “Try to run on a soften pavement or on a treadmill to avoid high impact as you eventually break down the elastin in your skin.” Points well taken.
