MINDWEBS - Michael Hanson's official tape archive
****************************************************************************************************************************
Welcome to Michael Hanson’s personal archive of his creation MINDWEBS! 188 half-hour shows which presented 216 short stories. Originally conceived and produced by Michael Hanson and Steve Gordon, this series aired on WERN/WHA Public Radio in Madison, Wisconsin from the mid 70’s through the mid 90’s with the first episode "Carcinoma Angels" being recorded on March 3rd 1975. MINDWEBS returned with new episodes in 2018 on WMSE in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as Michael publicly released his surviving copies of the show here. The series ended in 2021 after the death of Michael Hanson. Original air dates of the episodes could not be verified with only a handful of air dates currently known. The dates commonly attributed to episodes are not correct. The shows are presented in the order written on Michael’s back up tapes and are believed to be in a chronological order based on available station documentation and known air dates. This is the home of the complete series in it’s highest quality from source material for broadcast. It is made public HERE by the show creator as this will always remain free. Please respect his creative vision and do not sell or appropriate for profit but instead help share the show and link to this web page so that others can also get their lossless copies of the show directly from Michael Hanson which was his wish and the sole intent of this page which was a culmination of a dream and is his personal gift to you. As these are Michael’s master digital show copies, ANYONE who claims to have a different sourced or better sounding collection of this show is LYING. This is the original and DEFINITIVE SOURCE of the MINDWEBS series by the creator of the show for anyone who wants it.
It is my hope and intention that this project will bring free enjoyment of MINDWEBS to listeners new and old as long as sound exists. My sincere thanks to Darkman for making this possible. And my thanks to the myriad fans who've help make this entire enterprise viable.
--Yours truly, Michael Hanson
History:
I started this page in 2014 to share copies of the show I recorded off air in the 90’s and obtained through a dozen reels given to me by Jim Blackson in an attempt to collect all available episodes together in their best available quality and replace the low bit rate MP3s of the show that were circulating and correct the errors associated with them. That project inspired me to contact Michael Hanson in 2016 (who it turns out was aware of and very happy with my work :) and we became friends at the same time he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Together we worked on releasing his copies of the show which was something he always wanted to do and had tried to do several times in the past. None of those attempts succeeded and had actually resulted in the loss of the master reels of the show. This collection represents the master digital encodes of MINDWEBS remastered and created using the cassette tape copies made in his first attempt at backing up the shows master reels. While most of his tapes were in great stereo condition, almost two dozen of them did have issues during the original transfer. All episodes were repaired (in some cases using my personally recorded show copies) to the best ability. Thankfully in the end only a handful of the shows have noticeable damage and some of those have alternate mono copies which have been included. If this rescue and repair of tapes had not been done at this time it is very safe to say that the show would never have been heard or saved in this quality and would have most likely been lost forever. Michael himself was so happy that his dream to release the show was actually happening and being back on radio again triggered him to revive the series on WMSE in Milwaukee (our public media help in the release of the show) in 2018 and create brand new episodes which resulted in 19 more episodes of the show. Sadly, on the morning of September 9th 2019 Michael suffered a massive heart attack and died instantly. The final MINDWEBS episode ever aired was on the 7th anniversary of this page creation, October 31st 2021.
Thank you:
I am forever in debt to Mr. Hanson and am so happy to have helped him while he was alive and correct great wrongs that were done to him. I started as a fan and am now proud to be able to say he was my friend. I miss him terribly but we created this to keep his memory and spirit alive after his passing and I was honored to do so. Thank you for the stories you gave, the music you played and the love you created along the way. May you rest now that your dream is over. Big love to Rosie and the Hanson family for their support. I also want to send thanks to Rick Hurdle for all the valuable information at the PLOT SPOT , his work and assistance in the early days of this project and helping it get off the ground. 91.7 WMSE station manager Tom Crawford for all his support of the show, his support of me personally and for being the cornerstone to one of Milwaukee’s greatest institutions. Norman Gilliland for sharing his WHA copies of the show and helping introduce me to MINDWEBS. Kat Schleicher for the amazing photographs. Sarah Stettler, Connie Gehl, Mary Bartlein, Ed and Karl Paloucek for their contributions with the new episodes. Ward Paxton and Kerry Frumkin. John C. Meyer for his earlier attempt at doing this. Finally a continued forever thank you to Jim Blackson who was the spark that ignited a fire. He helped make dreams come true for both Michael and I and he will never fully understand just how much we owe him. This exists because of him.
No thanks to those who took advantage of Michael’s kindness with their attempts to sabotage the show, this release and Michael’s legacy starting with the individual who stole the master reels of the show from Michael.
Memorials may be made in Michael's name to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St, New York, NY 10128-6804 or the Freedom From Religion Foundation PO Box 750 Madison, WI 53701.

I have heard quite a few of interesting songs which are used as a soundtrack for Mindwebs and could even identify some - Terry Riley, for instance - and was wondering if someone could identify more of them. Some of them are really nice!

Subject: Very good series - and I would like to help preserve it
First off, I'd recommend this series, although I didn't hear it when I was a kid (born in 1971), 1/2 the stories I am familiar with though and I thought they were presented well.
Second - DarkmanWI - would you mind if I posted these elsewhere? I'll only do this with permission. I converted the original wave (*.wav) files into MP3 using FFMEG and fixed the naming convention a bit. Here's an example of the first 10 episodes:
[Episode 001] Carcinoma Angels, Norman Spinrad.mp3
[Episode 002] Promises to Keep, William F. Nolan.mp3
[Episode 003] Descending, Thomas Disch.mp3
[Episode 004] Happily Ever After, William F. Nolan -- Born of Man and Woman, Richard Matheson.mp3
[Episode 005] Harrison Bergeron, KurtVonnegut Jr. -- The Haunted Spacesuit, Arthur C. Clarke.mp3
[Episode 006] Kaleidoscope, Ray Bradbury.mp3
[Episode 007] Roller Ball Murder, William Harrison.mp3
[Episode 008] The Food Farm, Kit Reed.mp3
[Episode 009] The Weapon, Fredric Brown -- The Castaway, Charles E. Fritch.mp3
[Episode 010] The Hall of Machines, Langdon Jones.mp3
I won't share without permission. I would be happy to share the converted and renamed files with you if you like even if you don't want me to repost these. I do run a server and you can download it directly from me.
The loss in quality converting to MP3 is "minimal" (basically non existent) but is far smaller and it's compatible on multiple devices. My archive ended up being 5.3GB in total.
If you do give me permission to post them elsewhere, I will give proper attribution - meaning I will point back to this archive, and I will agree to any rules. If you give me permission and decide how it's presented is not to your liking, I will change it to conform with your wishes, or I will remove it without complaint.

Hey, thanks for the xml, mgungora.
ml7726 is right though, this could definitely benefit with some sprucing up (better formatting of titles, correct publish dates, and maybe even unique thumbnails for each episode.)
I have some scripting experience so maybe I can try to throw something together.

Thanks to your enjoyment of Mindwebs Darkman, you followed through, met, then recorded the man himself. Michael Hanson.
It's moments (or obsessions) like these that bring the truest pleasure to listeners and creators alike.
Hope the Hanson family still gains strength from our respect for Michael.

So once again the DarkmanWi Troll is going around the Archives posting negative, derogatory, homophobic comments on any page that shares any MindWebs episodes.
Somehow, he's gotten it into his obsessed mind that he controls the show and 'officially' has rights and control over the show.
It sounds good, but the thing is these shows are still 'officially' protected under copyright laws. They are just not being enforced.
He uses words like 'non-profit' in attempts to make it appear that he has no vested interest in them. But in fact, he is employed (gets his paycheck) from the very station that is broadcasting them. He has also posted them on the very 'pure profit' Youtube site.
He claims to respect the show.
But his profane rants have polluted many pages that have been up on the Archives for years.
Long before he had ever posted anything.
His first upload included almost all of the files that were already up. They were carbon copies which the audio png images proved. Then, after posting other peoples files, he profanely demanded that they take theirs down!
He has disgraced his page and many others on the Archive.
He has posted miles of ***updates*** in an attempt to bury his profanity filled rants where nobody will see them. But if you want to see them, scroll down through these comments to see his words others have re-posted

Subject: Public Statement of MindWebs
Subject: Public Statement of MindWebs
The comments left were to correct the record, address shameful self promotion using Michael’s show and to reply to false statements about me. Everything I have said is true. That is not trolling that is my right, and it looks like I have to do it again. Anyone might use profanity when someone else is using their hard work to promote a prurient web site filled with pictures of gothic girls in soft core bondage, but that is going back to matters when this individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs initiated contact by spamming my page and are (like me or so I was told) totally irrelevant now. While this individual keeps trying to slander me and make this all about me, IT IS NOT. The issue here is about Michael Hanson and his wishes for this release that I am trying to honor.
"Somehow, he's gotten it into his obsessed mind that he controls the show and 'officially' has rights and control over the show.”
I have never claimed “rights” to anything though I am in full control of the remastered release as that control was given to me by Michael Hanson himself. He entrusted me to carry out his wishes for the show in his life so I could control the release of his show after his death and that is a simple fact (like it or not) and has nothing to do with any copyrights surrounding the show. It simply means that I am the creator of the digital encodes of MINDWEBS of audio taken directly from Michael Hanson’s copies of his show and we worked together to release HIS copies to the public. So no, I don’t “own” these and that includes the new episodes I helped produce. Michael Hanson does and THAT is the whole point that the individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs seems to think is unimportant. My actions have not been made in a vacuum, they are based on the directions and wishes of Michael Hanson. The individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs thinks this is something to ridicule and try to subvert which speaks volumes about their character and their respect of Michael Hanson. They have went out of their way to extol posters of low quality audio and mirror Michael’s encodes but never bothered to even say thank you to Michael while he was alive for allowing them to hear his tapes. I said more than thank you. I made a deep commitment to a dying man and that is why all of this is very personal for me. If the individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs would have not shamelessly promoted themselves on so many MINDWEBS pages and actually helped Michael I would not have had to say anything. Even if I was a horrible person and had done any of the things the individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs charges, I would think I have made up for any offenses with what has been given back. To be completely honest I don’t care what anyone else thinks of me because I know how Michael felt about me. His nickname for me was Ace. Giving away master copies of the show for free has disgraced me and this page? There are plenty of wonderful reviewers here that don’t think so. No, the only disgraceful thing on these pages is just how perpetually ungrateful and shameless some people can be. I am sure getting tired of it but it will stop only when you stop it.
Also notice that I said I am in control of the release, not the show. The show is being released to the public and my updates are a record of the progression. I have no control of where it goes from here. All I have been trying to do is create a place that will serve as the foundation for the show that will allow anyone to obtain a copy of it from Michael while at the same time minimizing as much as possible the attempts of people to profit off his show or these encodes. That is why I have and will continue to sincerely ask people to help me in the promotion of Michael’s page and what is being done here. I also really wanted people to promote the page in the hopes that more people would leave messages for Michael. I wanted him to see just how many people appreciated him while he was still alive and give him positive support at a terrible time for him. Some felt that slandering me was more important than that. That is their loss and disgrace, not mine. In less than 2 years the entire series will have been released and posted which means the encodes will be "out there" and anyone can do whatever they want and there is not a single thing I can do about it. That makes me a control freak? Anyone is free to host these files, this is how Michael wants his show to be remembered. All I can hope is that they use them to highlight the genius of my friend and spread a bit of the love Michael left behind by directing people here so they too can get the show directly from him. There are many reasons why this show almost was never released and people will never fully know just how lucky they are to be able to hear Michael’s creation in this way and even new episodes. We all should be ecstatic about it and celebrate the life and memory of Michael Hanson rather than focusing on how horrible of a human being I am.
The individual who is now calling themselves MindWebs also really needs to understand what a 501(c)(3) is before they embarrass themselves again with such accusations of profit. It does provide insight into how they are trying to justify their past actions with the show and deflect with pseudo-reality and false comparisons. Also, I have not been actually employed by WMSE since 2011 (started 1999) and the pay I earned then was for my engineering work. I started my MINDWEBS project in the time freed up by not working at the station and only returned due to my connection for Michael. The other station we considered the release on was WORT in Madison, but both are community radio stations that Michael supported. Michael would not allow anyone involved in this to profit off of the show and great lengths were taken to minimize the ability to profit off the show. The lame insinuations of it not only are again disrespectful to Michael and everyone involved in this release, but are ludicrous considering what is actually being done and who the charge is coming from. To think that the review left was all triggered by the simple request to reference their source or put differently, to tell the truth.
My character and Michael’s thoughts about me are documented for any to see/hear should any question it or my motives. I have the privilege of being able to say Michael Hanson was a friend of mine and listening to what we created is something no one can ever take away from me or HIM ever again.

I just finished listening to the tribute to Michael Hanson, Very Moving. We will all miss him. Thank you for all your hard work to make Mindwebs live on. I spent many hours trying to edit the old radio recording to make them listenable. I am glad to hear the original recordings. I wish more radio stations would produce more fiction productions, but it is rare today.

Hi there i just need to tell you how i am enjoying the stories, and Michaels voice is so lovely in the way he tells them.
I came across the site mid September and am listening to a story every night (now up to no 51)
I realised that I found the site when Michael went on to the next world, so I say thank you to him for bringing me here.
All the best to his family and keep up the good work

...but I'm happy to hear that Mindwebs will continue.
Some random thoughts:
- I really enjoyed hearing Fredric Brown's "The Answer" in the recent three part episode. It reminds me of that famous story by Isaac Asimov, but it turns out that this one actually preceded it by a couple of years.
- Damaged or not, I'm looking forward to hearing "The Star." It's a classic for a reason.
- In a previous comment I expressed the opinion that the music was a bit too intrusive in the episode "Dry Spell." Well, after listening to it again with a better set of speakers I have to take that back; the sound is fine. My worn out old ears, on the other hand...
- After hearing "The Gun Without a Bang" and "The Petrified World" I have recently gone on a huge Robert Sheckley bender. Turns out he wrote a ton of entertaining short stories. Thank you Mr. Hanson for introducing Mr. Sheckley to me.
- I'm also happy to hear that "But As a Soldier to His Country" is coming up. It's kind of obscure but it's awesome.
And finally - thanks for sharing the tribute episode. I'll try to give it a listen tomight.

Recently got recommended Mindwebs after becoming obsessed with collecting anthologies of short stories (in print, ebook, and audio format), and wish I'd discovered this collection sooner.
I started listening with some apprehension, as I had recently attempted to get into some Librivox recordings, and quickly gotten sick of the varied quality and the monotonous, repetitive intro regarding the copyright details. Very quickly found myself sucked into listening story after story, and before I knew it, 5PM had rolled around and I was wondering where the time had gone.
Of the ones I have listened to so far, I would highly recommend the very first one, The Carcinoma Angels, and Descending, and very much looking forward to devouring the rest of this collection. A great collection of short stories, read by a cast with wonderful voices, and the quality is better than some professional audiobooks I've had the (mis)fortune of listening to.

I got to hear a few Mindwebs episodes in the late 1970s, as my dad had moved from Chicago to Milwaukee and would sometimes record and send random programs from the public radio stations up there. If I recall correctly Mindwebs was running on Wisconsin Public Radio's WHAD in Delafield. Cool to hear those again, and all the others!

I'd never heard of this show until I got an email from WMSE announcing the broadcast of this older speculative fiction radio series. It sounds like it was only available out of a Madison, WI station in the 70s-80s.
Streaming that first episode to my bedroom (Pacific time) I was thoroughly captivated by the story selection and Michael's classic delivery. I couldn't wait to hear these every week and started recording them on my computer to be able to listen to them at future dates. Getting completely new episodes was just the icing on the cake as these were also fantastic.
Thanks to WMSE for continuing to broadcast this excellent series over the airwaves and the net. Thank you Darkman for exposing a new generation (I'm not that young) to these excellent creations and for keeping Michael's legacy alive and kicking. You should be commended for your effort!
And thank you to Michael for your amazing work, creativity, talent, and taste (I also love the background jazz selections). May your work live on into the distant future . . . Rest in Peace

This series that our whole family listened too during the 80's at a WI lake home was the perfect way to enchant young children and keep them from the BOOB tube.(which we didn't have anyway) 7 or was 7:30, after a day on the lake, the family listening to the show, the kids, the adults winding down...It was always remarkable how the kids and adults would pay attention A perfect way to end an exhausting day by being quiet listening to these strange tales.....

Michael,
I didn't grow up listening to Mindwebs; I'm a late adopter. I didn't want to see these shows filling a garbage dump (along with so many other shows) and so I found a way to make the money to buy the reels. I think I made the right choice in saving the Mindwebs reels, especially when I see that, in a small way, that action led to something even better. Thank you for bringing this show to the OTR community in such good quality.
Thank you,

I have been a 'member' at the archive for over 9 years, just to get the newsletter email.
I have never once commented.
Until now.
I receive a small local variety newspaper which ran a blurb about mindweb which reminded me of the show and brought me here.
After searching for 'mindwebs' I've seen your writings and have to say I disapprove. Even the tone in your page is full of snark, control issues, and general nastiness..
Coming from near Madison with a full grown openly gay daughter in the Military I find your homophobic slurs beyond the pale.
To quote you
"As it stands, I would rather you pursue auto-erotic asphyxiation with your fishnets on the bathroom door knob"
Add to that your overuse of "jilted lovers" and it all becomes skin crawling.
Masculinity issues?
This is not in the spirit of the Archives, not of Madison, and I can't believe Mr. Hanson would approve of any of it.
Grow up, little boy.

Is Mr. Hanson aware of how DarkmanWI is acting towards others? I'm told he reads this archive message board. On another archive DarkmanWI left me this message:
"Subject: With friends like these...
Are you for real? MINDWEBS is back on the air after more than 20 years and is being released to the public but instead of expressing joy, support or gratitude for that fact, you are bitching that we not posting the master files fast enough for you? Well as you have been following my page, surely you saw my note that I would be posting episodes approximately 2 weeks after they air (even my current post says “weeks”) and it has not even been two weeks since the airing of the first episode so I have no idea what you are complaining about. You can still hear and download the re-mastered episodes aired at the station web site!
You are losing faith?!? Well, so is Michael when "fans" of his show disrespect and take advantage of him. Don’t tell me you have not seen my posts saying that Michael Hanson does not want the low bit bootlegs of his show to be the representatives of HIS CREATION and has asked those hosting these files to remove them since he is publicly releasing his show on WMSE's podcast site and what is now HIS web page here in the Archive. With the new radio airings, people are going to be looking for the show and Michael wants people to get the show from him in proper quality and not be confused or miss-directed to these incredibly poor representations of his show or to sites attempting to profit off of it. I took my original encodes down per HIS request and we thought other “fans” of the show would happily do it as well. Instead, “fans” such as yourself have no problem being dis-respectful to him and his wishes all while ungratefully taking what he has so graciously given. Why should he race to post his master files? So your goth/blabber jerk friend can insert them into his hosting of the bootleg shows (both in AND outside the Internet Archive) all while actively NOT directing people to the SOURCE web page he freely got them from (deja vu!)? That “fan,” just the same as you, cannot even be bothered to thank Michael for releasing his show. It was a "fan" of the show who took Michael's master reels (that he gave over in good faith) which very nearly cost all of us the chance to hear the show in this quality. There is much more to all of this that I am not going to tell you, what I will say is that you have NO IDEA how lucky you are to not only be hearing the show, but getting it directly from Michael HIMSELF (he is seeing all of this) in this quality. You should be seriously ashamed of yourself. Luckily, “fans” such as yourself are not the reason Michael nor I did this. There are people out there with actual hearts and souls who will get some enjoyment from the show and we are beyond happy to be able to present it to them.
Tell you what, we will think about posting new episodes in lossless quality in exchange for you showing some respect and removing this shit as was requested a month ago. That is a fair deal, huh?
Get a clue."

This is fantastic news that all episodes will be remastered and released on here, been a big fan for a long time and am glad we can all hear them in the quality they deserve. Good job guys!
One of the things which would be nice would be a track listing of the music that accompanies the narrative of each episode..some of the background music is amazing 😉

Dear Darkman,
Thank you. I could say it a hundred, or a thousand times, or just once, but my gratitude to you is immeasurable. To you, and those who may have played a part in getting a fantastic, futuristic series from one station in one time period to the world. I grew up with BBC sci-fi - Hitch Hikers Guide, Earthsearch, Journey Into Space and occasional other single programmes. There were some good scary programmes too: The Man In Black is perhaps the most notable.
But Mindwebs, Nightfall, X-Minus One, and series such as these have opened a channel to a wealth of wonder and imagination. Mindwebs is excellent, and to come from a local US station, and given to the world - well, I can only say that phrase again, but with a weight of meaning, from my heart, in the heart of Yorkshire, in the UK to wherever *you* are - thank you.
Blessings,
Brad.

A huge thanks from one old time radio drama fan who counts on the solid work of people like you to make the long miles fly by faster. I drive for a living in eastern Massachusetts and am very glad for the chance to listen to these programs. One hell of a collection authored by Michael Hanson and his crew at WHA. "Carcinoma Angels" remains my favorite.
I was struck by that shrill and windy rant by your gas-filled detractor on 12/15/15, and your response, addressed to us, not to it. Nice work there, too, showing strength of character and dedication to the craft, and your clear dedication to all of us.
Nice save, my friend, and keep the great work coming.

Hey Darkman!
Long time, eh what?
I can't tell you how happy I was to get your email -- when was it? Almost 2 years ago, now? -- telling me that you'd scored about a dozen reels of tape with (6) unknown episodes... and of your intent to put together a vastly improved Mindwebs archive! And it's been more than 1 year, now, since I posted your announcement thanking Michael Hanson and crew for a great show, and Jim 'Boxcar' Blackson for his invaluable help.

Time flies doesn't it?
I'm glad your dream has come to pass. I can't imagine the amount of work it must have taken to put this collection together, but I, for one, am deeply grateful! Mindwebs has always been one of my favourite radio series. The voices of Michael Hanson and Carol Cowan... the incidental music... the pacing and delivery... the choice of stories... all top-notch.
But what kills me is that you took the time to get the authors and titles right! I've been trying to correct plagiarized inaccuracies for years, but nobody pays any attention to me. (It's Wintley, not Whintley -- Corrida, not Corita -- Eurema's Dam, not Eurema's Dream -- Counselman, not Councelman -- John D. MacDonald, not John T. McDonald... Cephes, not Sephes -- Julian Kawalec, not Damien Kowalzyck -- Absalom, not Absalome-- etc., etc.)
But you got it right!
To me that shows a huge amount of respect for the real creative geniuses behind these stories -- the authors. No matter what we do, we stand on the shoulders of giants.
Cheers,

A lie is claiming you have any rights to this series.
"when I obviously did the most work on the set"
Right. By copying 146 files and claiming them as your own. Look at your spectrograms. They are carbon copies of the other files. You couldn't even be troubled to adjust the gain. I do see you found time to rename them! Does that count as an edit? If you at least modify something you can claim your mods. I modified every single file. Same bit rate same db level and so much more. Do yourself a favor and replace your files with my much improved batch.
Truth is once it's uploaded to the Archive, it belongs to the Archive. The moment you put it out there you surrendered it. Period.
Now deal with it.
If a monkey takes 7 bananas that he has no legal right to and throws them on a pile of 146 does that mean they are his? Ha Ha Ha!
Your profane ignorance can only be overshadowed by your Total Irrelevance
You should visit your local mental health clinic. I fear you have suffered a break down.
Now lets examine your profanity filled insane ramblings ....
I save my civility for those who deserve it, not for those who spit in my face. Sorry but I am going to call BS here and for all the desperate changes to cover up that fact, my record is here for all to see. Maybe, like me, it is imperfect, but it is honest. My page is not “complete” either but I certainly made it my point to give direct credit where I could when I first posted it because it was sincere. If YOU can find the original source of the low bit rate versions Sherlock (here’s a hint; they were around long before anyone posted them here on the archive) YOU might actually contribute something to this project of YOURS and actually have a point. So you are saying that my page was not “to improve the quality of the very poor examples that previously existed?” That, just like everything else here, was appropriated from me. Don’t get defensive with me because I called you out on it and had I not said something would still not be changed. I didn't even demand you take it down a$$soUl. Look, once I put this collection out into public I knew it was out of my hands and I knew at some point others would take credit for all my work and try to make money off it. That is the price of putting these into the public domain. I can’t stop you and your cutter friends from “remixing” these to your little black hearts content. However if you are going to take credit or profit on it, do it behind my back and don’t be dumb and rude enough to do it to my face. I know you think you are entitled to everything; just know that you are spitting in the face of the very person who was kind enough to let you hear this stuff in the first place. But I know YOU don’t give a damn about me or the goals of MY efforts. YOU only want what YOU can take from me so YOU can claim it as yours with the least amount of effort to YOU. It’s all about YOU and that is my problem with this “goal” as presented jerky.
Let’s get a few things straight. Yes this show is in the public domain but the recordings are private. WHA does not even have the original tapes anymore. All of the high quality recordings are from MY personal recordings off WHA. These are as close to the original tapes as we are likely to get and you have me alone to thank for making them available. I am not claiming copyright but I am telling you that were it not for me, you would not have them so pardon me if I get a little offended when you try and take credit for that. I didn’t have to share them with anyone, but I wanted people to be able to experience the show as it aired (you know, like the supposed point of YOUR project!). Jim Blackson was kind enough to share his reels from late otr historian Raymond Stanich’s collection. That was the source of the 7 episodes that were not in any circulated collection (6 of them were unknown till this release). This was a work of love for me that I fit in between 70 hour work weeks and I then gave it freely to YOU. While I still had work to do on it, I thought I had it at a good enough shape to release it as a Halloween treat for friends and the demand took out my dropbox. So I hurriedly created my Archive page so they could hear them and maybe create a point where others could come to share their recordings. I have no problem with the goals of your project, they are the same as mine and it seems like common courtesy, if honestly starting such a project, that one would reach out to the main source for all your material for possible research information and co-ordination rather than just taking it and calling it your own. To try to compare your efforts in this project to mine is insulting, you can't even get Michael's name right! HANSON. Given my time constraints it would be cool to have others actively working on finding basic info like that… but that is not what is really going on here. This was simply taking my (and yes others) efforts to help promote a web site. Plain and simple. You have put no effort into the research for this show and you have provided no tapes to help assemble it (BTW – from what I can find, the correct title of the show is Mindwebs, one word. I apologize only for perpetuating that mistake). Your post was pure self promotion and for all your corrections (making the art work worse isn’t helping), you STILL can’t find room to thank Jim for giving YOU a chance to hear these even though I dropped his name several times and why I tore into you in the first place. Guess that is asking for too much credit to someone who didn’t have to let anyone hear these in the first place because this is all about me huh?
You are obviously too stupid to see how truly offensive you were to me when I alone allowed you the chance to hear this show in broadcast quality and shows you didn’t even know about. It is a shame as this could have been a very worthy project and one that I would have supported had YOU not acted in the way that you did. As it stands, I would rather you pursue auto-erotic asphyxiation with your fishnets on the bathroom door knob

I don't know what else to say other than I love this, so much so that I felt compelled to start an account just so I could write a review. I had heard many episodes before in very low quality, so hearing the better quality for many of these is a delight. This show is definitely a product of its time, but in a way that just makes me enjoy it more. So many of the stories are excellent and so it most of the reading. Occasionally there is some awkwardness, but the love, effort, and creativity that went into this definitely shows. I have burned all of these onto mp3 discs along with lots of science fiction music (most of which is also from archive.org), I put them on shuffle and they make great listening while I am driving. I wish there was more stuff like this out there.

I've loved this series for a few years now. Terrific, literate stories, well told -- not acted out, for the most part. I've had bad sounding copies, but this upload seems to solve that, based on what I've heard so far.
Thanks for the upload. Highly recommended to anyone who likes OTR and speculative lit by some very interesting authors.

No doubt the only radio drama to use Frank Zappa's music for underscoring. It would be great if someone could compile a list of the songs/artist used in this program.

Mindwebs is a fantastic series of dramatized readings of sci-fi short stories. It's similar to Quiet Please in that the readings are accompanied by spooky music and sound affects, both of which give the show a spooky atmosphere. Listening to this series will give you a good appreciation for the seventies sci-fi scene.
This new collection has eighteen more episodes than the old one. Seventeen of them are:
A Place And A Time To Die
But As a Soldier, For His Country
Cephes 5
Final Exam
I See You
Prez
Pure Gold
Through Time and Space with Ferdinand Feghoot
The Everbranching Tree
The food farm
The funny farm
The Icebox Blonde
The Man from Earth
The Martian El Dorado of Parker Wintley
The Number You have Reached
The Plot is the Thing
The Preserving Machine
If you haven't encountered this great series before, I'd recommend downloading the whole set. That way you'll be in awesome sci-fi radiobooks for the next few months.

Thank you, Darkman!
Just wanted to thank you for all your hard work in bringing this series back to life.
This is the series that turned me on to 'Old Time Radio' as an adult. I listened to 'CBS Radio Mystery Theater' while growing up, but it was the voice of Michael Hanson (and occasionally Carol Cowan) that reached out and sucked me back in to the world of audio drama.
This is a wonderful series... not quite drama, but much, much more than audio books.
Michael Hanson has a wonderful voice and he does a superb job reading these stories. This series provides a minimalist approach with often just Mr. Hanson, and occasionally a few other actors, reading the script. Rather than rely on sound effects, most episodes use music and character voices to shape the mood.
My favourites?
Allegory | Apple | Carcinoma Angels | Computers Don't Argue | The Fog Horn | Light of Other Days | My Object All Sublime | The Night He Cried | The Night of the Nickel Beer | Paradise Regained | The Place of the Gods | Roller Ball Murder | Test | Wasted on the Young | When It Changed.
