The classic comedy “Friday” will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a return to the big screen for one night only. See the director’s cut Monday, April 20 at select theaters nationwide. Buzzfeed first reported this genius studio marketing move on Thursday.

For those not familiar, the story follows two buddies, Craig (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker), and the duo’s predicament over $200 of marijuana owed to a drug dealer in this slice of 1990s L.A. life.
In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Ice Cube gives props to New Line Cinema for the anniversary release and says, “It lets you know how much people appreciate it and how much fun it is … and it lets you know that ‘Friday’ is now a part of the American fabric.”
The 1995 film showcased the screenwriting skills of former N.W.A. member Ice Cube (with an assist from DJ Pooh), but he may have used all of his good stuff on the effort. Ice Cube went on to write the not-nearly-as-awesome “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next.” A fourth addition to the franchise, “Last Friday,” has been stuck in development limbo for years.
The film will be at seven theaters in Colorado (7:30 p.m. screening):
In case you needed more enticement, there’s an added bonus at the April 20 screening: a featurette called “Friday Straight Up” that has interviews and stories with the cast.
Advance tickets are available through Fathom Events; otherwise you can wait until tickets officially go on sale Friday, March 20.
