An American teen called Bobbie Beale has been hailed with abuse on Twitter following last night's highly-anticipated episode of EastEnders.

The unsuspecting Twitter user with the same name, albeit a different spelling, as the young soap killer was left bewildered after receiving a number of accusing messages from fans of the soap.

American Bobbie Beale, form California, said she thought the tweets referred to a real-life killer.

She told BuzzFeed News: "I was definitely confused. I saw the BBC tweet it, and then I realised. I looked up the show and I thought, Oh, this makes sense now, but at first I was really confused because I thought it was a real-life thing and I thought Bobby Beale killed someone and I was like, 'It's not me'."

She had initially sent a tweet asking why three people from Scotland were messaging her about "killing someone named Lucy".

Once she realised all the commotion was based on a fictional crime, Bobbie decided to put a face to her name and posted a selfie alongside the hashtag #IdidntKillLucy.

"Making the best out of the situation by posting a selfie," she tweeted.

Which made us LOL a bit.

And Twitter's reaction to Bobbie's situation was also quite hilarious.

More than a million tweets were sent during the EastEnders specials last night, making them the most tweeted-about episodes of a soap.

The nation, gripped by the mystery of Lucy Beale's murder, shared its thoughts on the twists and turns of the two episodes, climaxing in more than 30,000 tweets in the single minute after Bobby was revealed to be the killer.

The second episode eclipsed the 508,678 messages sent during the first special by more than 10,000, with 519,359 tweets posted as the killer came closer to being unmasked, data from social analytics firm Kantar Social TV UK showed.
