2nd plunder raps filed vs. PNP chief Purisima

(Updated 3 p.m.) A second plunder complaint has been filed against Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima.

The anti-crime group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), led by Dante Jimenez, filed the complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman on Monday, a post from GMA News reporter Marisol Abdurahman said.

The second complaint came a week after the consumer rights' group Coalition of Filipino Consumers filed plunder, bribery, and graft charges against Purisima in connection with a mansion in Nueva Ecija and the renovation of the PNP chief's official quarters inside Camp Crame.

A separate tweet from dzBB reporter Rowena Salvacion said that aside from plunder, VACC also filed for indirect bribery, violation of Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and Section 8 of Republic Act No. 6713, or the Code of Condut and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

Jimenez, founding chairman and president of VACC, also asked the Ombudsman for a preventive suspension against Purisima, Salvacion added.

Earlier, the VACC—along with other anti-crime groups—called for Purisima's resignation, saying the PNP chief should start speaking up about the issues that plague his leadership.

In an earlier interview, Jimenez said Purisima was hiding behind President Benigno Aquino III, who has defended him several times.

Purisima returned to the Philippines from Bogota in Colombia last Sunday night but declined to talk about the charges against him.

He was earlier invited by the Senate to attend hearings on the renovation of the so-called White House, the official residence of the PNP chief in Camp Crame, but he was in Colombia for a conference. –Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KBK, GMA News
