It is an extremely important World Heritage site which belongs to the whole of humanity and we have the responsibility to protect and preserve it. I can’t imagine that the world will never see Palmyra anymore.” (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNESCO DIRECTOR-GENERAL, IRINA BOKOVA, SAYING: “We may have different beliefs, we may have different views, but we have to protect the such incredible vestiges of human history.... I would appeal strongly to all sides once again to review strategies, to review their military actions, and to protect and preserve Palmyra.”
