Heroes’ welcome awaits peacekeepers after 21-day quarantine

A heroes' welcome – and another medical procedure – awaits the 133 Filipino peacekeepers who arrived Wednesday from Ebola-stricken Liberia, once they complete their 21-day quarantine at on an island in Manila Bay, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said Thursday.

The heroes' welcome will be held at the AFP general headquarters, AFP public affairs head Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said on dzBB radio.

Cabunoc also said all the peacekeepers were cleared in a thermal scanning procedure after their arrival.

On Wednesday afternoon, the 133 peacekeepers arrived at the Villamor Air Base aboard a chartered flight.

But shortly after arrival, they were whisked off to Caballo Island, an island near Corregidor in Manila Bay, for their 21-day quarantine.

On the other hand, Cabunoc said the 133 will undergo a routine medical test after their quarantine.

He said the medical test is normal for soldiers who arrived from Africa to ensure they are healthy.
