A huge thank you to the Mahtomedi High School National Honor Society members who volunteered at L.C. Webster Elementary School’s annual family literacy night. NHS members rolled up their sleeves to help us pitch tents, hang twinkle lights, set up Star Lab, serve dinner, make books, read stories and so much more. The presence of so many caring and patient young people from the Mahtomedi National Honor Society helped make our event even more fun for our students and their families.

The jogger who ran out in front of my vehicle in Cherokee Park just before noon on March 20. His ear buds didn’t allow him to hear me, and he failed to look into the street before he decided to leave the sidewalk and cut across Chippewa Avenue. I hit my brakes, and — just at the last second — he saw me. The jersey he was wearing had the name “Luck” on the back. If Mr. Luck isn’t careful and keeps running out into traffic, someday his luck will run out.

Sainted to the wonderful volunteers who donate their time through the “Water’s Off” program.

Plumbers Local No. 34 — Zachary Hemmah and Garrett Kitzmann — came to our home to stop our water leaks. This help was a godsend! Zachary and Garrett went above and beyond, checking and fixing everything. My special thanks to them; also to Marcy Paulson of Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington Counties, who oversees this great and wonderful program. It means so much to us seniors.

There are not enough thanks to the crew on floors 4000/4100 at St. Joe’s Hospital. Dr. Voeller, his team, the nurses and aides kept me alive after triple bypass surgery. They, along with Dr. Garr and the whole HealthEast team, have promised to be there for me, monitoring my progress.

These people deal with miracles on a daily basis; I’m one of them.

I am afraid of the dentist, but I never had any major issues.

I go on a regular basis to avoid any problems. At a recent visit, my dentist discovered a cracked tooth that needed a crown. Of course, I panicked. I never had anything, even Novocaine! For days, I asked everyone for their opinion and heard the good and the bad.

Sainted to my dentist, Dr. Michael Roscher, and his staff for putting me at ease during the procedure. He explained each step and made sure I was doing OK. I even made it through the Novocaine. It was “a piece of cake.”

Thank you, Dr. Roscher. There’s a reason why you’re always named the best dentist.

Sainted: March Madness is slowly drawing to a close, and we have for many years enjoyed watching the great game of hockey on all levels of competition.

On March 22, the Golden Gophers women’s hockey team defeated Harvard 4-1, winning their third national championships in the last four years.

Congratulations to this special team of young women athletes, coach Brad Frost, families, friends and fans.

While celebrating my birthday with a friend on March 19 at Craft bar and grill in Woodbury, we experienced an evening to remember. Our waitress (Tricia) introduced us to a young lady at a table nearby who also was celebrating her birthday.

She immediately came to our table with birthday wishes and friendly conversation (it so happened that she was 38 years younger than I). It was so delightful to meet a younger person who shows that much interest in senior citizens. Talking with her was a true delight!

Then, the frosting on the cake was when she left. Unbeknown to us, she picked up our dinner tab and told Tricia to wish us well.

Our sincere thank you and sainted to Tricia and this lovely lady.

Sainted: To the Roseville Parks Department for keeping the restrooms unlocked during the winter months. We often take long walks in Central Park.

It is good to know we can find a clean, unlocked bathroom when needed. And the walkways are clear and safe, as well.
