The TV show Teen Kids News, the brain child of Old Greenwich resident Albert Primo, and co-produced by Stamford resident and Emmy winning Director, Alan Weiss, just became a Parents’ Choice Approved Award Winner.

Established in 1978, the Parents’ Choice Foundation is the nation’s oldest nonprofit consumer guide to quality children’s media. The judges had this to say about the show:

“Each weekly ½ hour episode covers interesting “positive news” subjects such as learning Mandarin, as well as more serious issues like boys with excess breast tissue...The teen reporters are fresh faced and earnest in their reporting and it’s nice to see peer to peer interaction...the show delivers positive news-y stories in a not always positive news world.”

Teen Kids News, which airs on Fox 5 on Saturdays at 9:30 am, has received numerous awards over the years including an Emmy Award, the Silver Circle Award, Hermes Creative Award and George Washington Honor Medal. In addition to the trophies, the show has been lauded by People Magazine, the TV Guide, the Daily News, and spoofed by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.

“Our teen reporters were thrilled to be guest’s on Jon’s show, it was a segment, a skit, about how to survive in the cut-throat world of TV news reporting and he was helping ‘toughen’ up the kids,” Primo explained. Primo himself is a veteran newsman, credited with creating the “Eyewitness” news format that has become standard practice today.

The latest episode of Teen Kids News can also be seen on the show’s website TeenKidsNews.com. “We have a lot that we offer on the website, this is after all a teen show,” cited Director of Digital Media and Riverside resident, Laurie Newkirk. “It needs to be engaging but still informative so we were pleased to receive first place for Best Educational Website from the CT Press Club, it lets us know that we’re getting it right.”
