KU's Levonowich Set to Tee Off at Meiji Cup

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s golfer Minami Levonowich will be one of three amateurs and the only American competing in a 155-golfer field at the Meiji Cup Invitational when she tees off late Thursday night. The three-day LPGA Japan event (Aug. 8-10) will be played at the par-72, 6,473-yard Sapporo International Country Club in Hokkaido, Japan.

Levonowich, a senior this fall at Kansas, earned a sponsored invite to the tournament after leading the Jayhawks with an overall score of 226(+6) at the 2014 NCAA Cenreal Regional, which was broadcasted around the globe on the Golf Channel. This will be her first professional tournament experience and will consist of three rounds of stroke play with a cut after the second.

A world traveler who has called London, Houston and Lawrence home, among others, Levonowich is one of three KU golfer’s that played in all 13 events last year for the Jayhawks. She finished third on the team in top-20 finishes with five and was also third on the team in stroke average at 76.31 per round. Levonowich was a key component to the Jayhawks’ first NCAA Central Regional and second NCAA Championship appearance since 1990.

Levonowich was set to tee off on the back nine Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m. in Lawrence time, which is 14 hours behind the local time in Japan. Live scoring is available in English by clicking here (http://realtimescore.lpga.or.jp/PC/LeaderBoard/0/en).
