Plane from Hollister went missing Saturday
A pilot and passenger died after a small plane crashed on a ranch near Gilroy over the weekend.
Their identities were released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office as Jon Dennis, 69, of Gilroy, and Kiely Vaca, 18, of San Jose. granddaughter.
Dennis owned the plane and Vaca is his granddaughter, according to the coroner.
A rancher found the victims and wreckage from the Cessna 140A Sunday in a ravine between Gilroy and Hollister near Pacheco Pass.
The red and white plane took off from Frazier Lake Airpark in Hollister and was flying to Watsonville. Authorities said the plane was supposed to return to Hollister, but never did.
Their plane was reported was "overdue" at 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the San Benito County Sheriff's Office, and a search was organized.
A spokesman from the Federal Aviation Administration said the Cessna 140 crashed sometime Saturday night.
National Transportation Safety Board investigators are at the scene trying to determine what caused the crash.
