PNP to start taping cops’ gun muzzles Monday

Starting Monday, expect most members of the Philippine National Police to have their service firearm muzzles sealed for the holidays.

The move aims to prevent police from indiscriminately firing their weapons to celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year, radio dzBB reported Sunday.

On Monday, police units are to start taping the service firearm muzzles of police personnel as part of preparations for the holidays.

But some police units had already done so earlier, including that in Region 12.

An earlier report on MindaNews said police there had their service firearms muzzled for the holidays to make sure they do not welcome the New Year with gunfire.

Region 12 spokesman Chief Inspector Aldrin Martin Gonzales said the taping of SOCCSKSARGEN police officers' gun muzzles was completed as of last Friday.

Police were warned of severe sanctions if they are found to have fired their service firearms without any justifiable cause. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
