Opinion: Sleepy Hollow Democrats Promise Progress not Procrastination

Democratic and Responsive Government candidates charge Mayor with being AWOL on key village concerns.

Democratic and Responsive government candidates for Mayor and Trustee in Sleepy Hollow are accusing Mayor Wray of being AWOL when it comes to key Village concerns. They point to the following:

The GM property has finally been sold, but is the Village ready for what’s ahead? Wray has neglected:

ü To appoint a design committee as required by the Special Permit

ü To address the traffic issue for Sleepy Hollow

ü To make appointments to key committees that review the site plan, including the Waterfront Advisory Committee (WAC), the Parking Authority and the Architectural Review Board (ARB)

ü To make appointments to the newly formed Local Development Corporation (LDC), requiring it to be populated by the Board of Trustees by default

ü To develop working relationships with officials in other municipalities. Wray’s refusal to discuss Tarrytown’s lawsuit with Tarrytown officials blocked the project for over 4 years

ü To complete a deal for a new water reservoir, a crucial need according to Wray but one he has not accomplished

Wray has failed to address other key issues facing the Village:

ü Route 9 restriping was set to go forward without Village input. Wray’s attitude was let NY state figure it out. Trustees Wompa and Handelman acted to insure a new, safer striping pattern.

ü Wray wanted to cancel the building of the Senior Center. Wompa stepped in to “make it happen.”

ü When the Agreement with the County for Kingsland Point Park was due to expire, Wray’s attitude was just give it back to the County. Trustee Campbell and Mary Linder are working with the County, the GM developer and Scenic Hudson to design a plan for the Park.

ü Village infrastructure is crumbling. Despite repeated requests, the Mayor has not developed a phased in plan to repair or replace it.

Trustees have proposed new ideas for the Village but get no support from the Mayor:

ü Trustees proposed a sanitation review that could have resulted in taxpayer savings. The Mayor dropped the idea.

ü Trustees proposed personnel to keep Beekman Avenue clean. The Mayor refused to respond.

ü Trustees proposed a parking and traffic study. The Mayor did not act.

Our Village deserves better. We deserve a Mayor who is actually engaged in solving the Village’s problems. The Democratic/Responsive government candidates pledge to end this period of inactivity and move the Village forward.
