Anyone who's spent any time watching Food Network or studying cooking knows that the ThermoWorks ThermaPen is basically the be-all, end-all of instant read digital food thermometers. The problem is, they cost about $100, and hardly ever go on sale. Today though, they're clearing out their inventory of discontinued brown models, and you can get one for just $79. The last two times I tried to write about a Timbuk2 backpack deal, it sold out before I could even post it, but this one seems to be holding strong. I bought a Timbuk2 a couple of years ago, and I honestly don't see myself ever buying another brand of backpack ever again. We've all had to throw away leftovers or cuts of meat and cheese that spent a little too much time in the fridge or freezer, but vacuum sealing your foods can keep them safe from freezer burn pretty much indefinitely, and dramatically extend their shelf life everywhere else.

It sounds like an expensive proposition, but today only, Woot's selling the well-reviewed FoodSaver Starter Kit for just $65 shipped, complete with everything you need to get started. Of course you can use this to store meats in the freezer for a long time, but it can also keep cheese from molding, lettuce from wilting, or cookies from going stale, just to name a few examples. Think about how much food you throw away, and you'll get a sense of just how quickly this purchase could pay for itself. Vacuum sealers have been around for a long time, but a new use for them has emerged in recent years: Sous-Vide. If you don't mind buying a refurb, Woot has one of the best prices we've ever seen on a 60Hz 4K monitor today. Samsung's 28" UHD panel goes for about $500 new, and has solid reviews. We've all heard that watching TV in the dark can be pretty tough on the eyes, but an ambient bias lighting setup can make the experience much more palatable. This basic USB-powered kit from Antec is only $19 today, and takes just a few seconds to install.

All you have to do is plug the LED strip into the USB port on the back of your TV (or any other USB charger, as you just need it for power), stick it to the back of your set with the built-in adhesive, and then enjoy the glow. It has a small switch to turn the light on or off, but a lot of TVs will cut power to their USB port automatically when turned off, which saves you from having to flick it off manually.

This, along with the 100-pack of Velcro cable ties, is one of the most elusive deals we post. It's not rare, necessarily, but it seems to sell out incredibly quickly whenever we post it. Fitbits are fantastic for shaming yourself into taking more steps, and the Fitbit Charge is $30 off today, bringing it down to $100. Best Buy's offering a great chance to expand your Blu-ray collection today. Choose any three movies from a wide selection of Sony releases, and get the whole trifecta for $20. Today's Amazon Gold Box features a nice collection of wallets, watches, bags, and more from Fossil marked down to new low prices. As with all Gold Box deals, the prices are only available until midnight PT, but the most popular stuff could sell out early. [Fossil Sale]

The deal that just didn't want to stay in stock is back, at least for now. These Velcro cable ties are one of the most popular items we've ever listed, and at $6 for a 100-pack, it's easy to see why. If the back of your home theater or your desk is a rat king of tangled wires, this is one of the easiest and most economical ways of wrangling them. This luggage scale will pay for itself many times over if it saves you from a single overweight baggage fee, and it's a whole lot easier to use than trying to balance your 30" suitcase on a tiny bathroom scale. Nintendo's new 3DS is a terrific handheld console if you don't already own one, and possibly even a worthy upgrade for owners of the old model who use it frequently. If you've been waiting for a deal to pick one up, Walmart's got the first one worth mentioning.

Unfortunately, it's not a straight price drop, but it's a really solid bundle. You get the console in either red or black, a copy of Super Smash Bros. and your choice of Amiibo from a selection of 20. Everyone needs to keep a decent drill handy, and we've found two solid starter kits for under $45 today. They both come with a drill, a battery, tons of drill bits, and some other assorted tools as well.

Update: Amazon is also running a $10 off $50 promotion on Black & Decker tools, so if you add a cheap filer item, you can get them both as low as $40.

Unless you're an electrician, you probably don't need a multimeter very often, but for $7, you might as well keep one in your toolbox for emergencies. [Digital LCD Multimeter, $7]

You're doing something wrong if you've ever given Apple 19 American dollars for a Lightning cable; there are plenty of cheaper options out there that are just as good. One of the most popular is Amazon's own AmazonBasics Lightning cable, and the 3' version is only $9 today.

We've seen slightly cheaper Lightning cables in the past from other sellers, but you know Amazon's customer service is top-notch if you ever have an issue, and a ridiculous 15,000+ reviewers have given the cable a 4.2 star score, so I'd say this is a safe buy. [ AmazonBasics Lightning Cable, $9]
