PNP: Jolo Revilla shooting has to be investigated

The Philippine National Police on Thursday said it would still need to investigate the shooting incident involving Cavite Vice Gov. Jolo Revilla.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. stressed that an investigation on the incident is needed for public interest even if the family was against it.

"Lalo pa't involved ang isang government official — we are talking about a vice governor ng isang premier na probinsya sa bansa," he said. "Marahil, ang kanyang constituents and other sectors are interested on what happened."

On Wednesday, Revilla family spokesman Atty. Raymund Fortun said there was no need for a special investigation task group to investigate the incident as it involved no crime.

A task group was earlier formed for the general interest of public safety.

However, Cerbo said that the PNP was not rushing the Cavite official.

"Although, we are giving the family space, nirerespeto natin given the sensitive nature of the incident, but just the same, kailangan pa rin natin malaman 'yung katotohan nito," he said. "Ang importante ay ang recovery ni Vice Governor Revilla."

He, however, said that in "normal circumstances," those involved in such incidents would be have to be asked questions.

"He has to be investigated, but we don't see any urgency, at this point, recovery muna, ang paggaling," he said. "Kung sinasabi nga na accidental or self-inflicted, the more that we have to find out. Hindi pa natin ang alam ang whole story."

Revilla was rushed to the the Asian Hospital on Saturday after he sustained the gunshot wound while allegedly cleaning a Glock handgun in their Alabang home. —NB, GMA News
