PNoy vows to sign bill increasing soldiers’ subsistence allowances

(Updated 6:09 p.m.) President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday pledged to sign a bill seeking to increase the subsistence allowances of soldiers.

During the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)’s 79th anniversary event at Camp Aguinaldo, Aquino delivered the “good news” to military personnel: the passage of the measure raising their subsistence allowances from P90 to P150.

“Inaabangan na lang po natin ang panukala, at ‘pag lumapag ito sa ating mesa ay pipirmahan agad natin ito,” said the President, who is also the commander-in-chief of the military.

Aquino’s announcement was met with applause by AFP officials and their guests.

The President also assured that his administration will strive hard to give more benefits to Filipino soldiers.

“Malinaw po: Isinasagad ng inyong gobyerno ang pagkakataon na palakasin ang inyong hanay at ihatid sa inyo ang nararapat na benepisyo; nagtutulak tayo ng repormang nagdadala ng higit na serbisyo sa inyong mga kasapi ng AFP, at sa inyong mga pamilya,” he said.

He particularly vowed to continue housing and livelihood projects for AFP officers.

Aside from these benefits, the President also committed to continue efforts to modernize the AFP through procuring more ships and aircrafts.

“Ang buod po ng lahat ng ating pagsisikap: Nais nating isulong ang Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas na mas moderno, mas maaasahan, at tinitingala ng buong mundo,” he said.
