Once Upon a Time's Scott Michael Foster Talks Bringing Frozen to TV and What the Cast of Greek Is Up to Now

When it was announced that Frozen would be coming to Once Upon a Time this season, fans freaked out. And for good reason: The Disney megahit has beloved characters that are sure to stir things up in Storybrooke. However, anyone who remembers Greek will understand why I was most excited at the news that Cappie Scott Michael Foster will be playing Kristoff. The actor stopped by Glamour HQ to talk the new season, how he feels about going blond, and what his Greek costars are up to now. So exciting that you're joining Once Upon a Time! Had you seen Frozen before you got the role? Yeah, it's funny—when it first came out, there was a lot of buzz about it, but I didn't think I'd go see it. Then my nieces and nephews all fell in love with the movie, so I watched it with them. They are all huge fans of Anna and Elsa, so I knew about it from them. Then when the audition came along for this, I saw it again. So, I'm well aware of the movie and all that the story has to offer now. How will Once be doing the story—is it picking

So exciting that you're joining Once Upon a Time! Had you seen Frozen before you got the role?

*Yeah, it's funny—when it first came out, there was a lot of buzz about it, but I didn't think I'd go see it. Then my nieces and nephews all fell in love with the movie, so I watched it with them. They are all huge fans of Anna and Elsa, so I knew about it from them. Then when the audition came along for this, I saw it again. So, I'm well aware of the movie and all that the story has to offer now. *How will Once be doing the story—is it picking up where the movie left off?

Precisely. They're going to pick up where the movie leaves off, but it's not exactly the same. This is a new story, and they're taking their own creative licenses with it. They are basing our version—on Once Upon a Time—not only off the movie Frozen but the original story by Hans Christian Andersen. They're taking cues from both. As far as look goes, our costumes are all straight out of the movie. It's going to look very similar, but there are elements of it that are new.

Did you have to dye your hair blond?

Yeah. When they announced that I got Kristoff, all these people put mash-ups together of me from Greek and the character of Kristoff next to each other. The hair is the same, but the color was different. So I think everyone thought I was going to have this long, flowing hair, but when I got the role I had short hair. So they were like, "We'll put a wig on you, I guess." The wig looked terrible. It looked like I was going to be at Disney World, waving to fans, you know? It was bad. So they dyed my hair. We've been growing it out and dyeing it, growing it out and dyeing it, since July.

Are you liking the change?

I get so much mixed reactions from people. My agents were like, "We love it! You look fantastic." And then my close friends are like, "Ehh...you should go back to your normal hair color." So, I don't know. We'll see what happens.

Will there be a reindeer on the show?

There is a reindeer. His name is Jack, and he plays Sven. When we got the first script, Sven was in it, and I expected this moose—like a giant beast with antlers that you can ride. But reindeer aren't like that! A reindeer is a deer with antlers, kind of close to caribou. They're small. It's like a big Great Dane. I don't think you could ride one. I couldn't, for sure. I would crush it. I was expecting this giant beast and that wasn't the case at all, but it's been interesting working with live animals, to say the least.

What about Olaf?

They are not bringing Olaf in, as far as I know. If they do at some point, that'll be a surprise for me as well. It would have to be pure animation—unless they wanted some guy in a suit, which would be silly.

So, changing gears, I have to talk about Greek. I was a huge fan. Where's Cappie now?

Well, I would like to think that he's still with Casey in Washington, D.C., and living happily ever after. I did a TV show that didn't last on ABC called The Zero Hour, and my character was working at a magazine. When that came out, people online were like, "Oh, Cappie's in New York working at a magazine now!" I was like, "Completely different show." I would like to think that instead of that he's still with Casey in their red Prius driving around—never stopping anywhere, just driving forever off into a sunset.

Does the cast still keep in touch?

Yeah! Actually, the reason I'm out here [in NYC] for this trip is because Jake McDorman, who played Evan, is doing a show for ABC, Manhattan Love Story. We're really close. I hang out with Paul James, who played Calvin, and Jacob Zachar, who played Rusty. Amber Stevens (Ashleigh) is getting married to Andy West, who played the character Fisher—he was the hot guy that worked at the Zeta Beta House. They've been together for, like, six years.

What?! They're getting married? My mind is blown.

I know, I know. The only people I don't see a lot is Clark Duke [who played Dale]. He's busy. And I never see Spencer Grammer (Casey). She's got a baby, so she's being mom of the year.

I feel like the show was ahead of its time. Like, if it came on when Netflix and Hulu were around, it would have been around longer.

Absolutely. I think, honestly, the reason it's still talked about and revered today is because of Netflix. The entire show is on Netflix, and I think more people have watched it since it's been on Netflix than people who watched it when it was on TV. It's gotten sort of a cult following, which is really cool. Nobody expected that to happen when we were shooting it. I think if any of these platforms were doing what they're doing now in 2010 or 2011, we might have gone on further. Who knows.

Once Upon a Time premieres Sunday, September 28, at 8 P.M./7 P.M CT.
