Hulu Renews 'The Awesomes' Due to Strong Viewership

Fans of The Awesomes, Hulu's first animated original series that stars the voice of Saturday Night Live star Seth Meyers and other well-known comedians, will get 10 more episodes of the superhero comedy after season one ends. No word on when season two will launch.

This season concludes with the second bit of its two-part finale on Sept. 26, at which time all episodes from the inaugural season will be available to stream on Hulu.

"The Awesomes has been a runaway hit with viewers, and we're thrilled to continue to work with [co-creators Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker] and their creative team on another season," Andy Forssell, Hulu's acting CEO, said in a statement.

Hulu notes The Awesomes, which launched Aug. 1, is routinely on the video-streaming service's weekly top 10 most-watched shows list.

"I'm finally the voice of a fourth-tier superhero," Meyers, who will co-executive produce season two, previously told Mashable. Shoemaker and Broadway Video's Andrew Singer round out the executive production team, which will work with animation studio Bento Box Entertainment and writer Judd Winick.

Meyers voices Professor Doctor Awesome (a.k.a. Prock), who leads a legendary team whose best heroes have left, leaving a few "funny-if-flawed" heroes. Among the stars lending their voices are Bill Hader, Kenan Thompson, Rashida Jones and Taran Killam.
