Boris Johnson drunk flight passenger jailed for assault

An airline passenger who ignored warnings from Boris Johnson to calm down on a flight from the Far East has been jailed for six months.

David Morris, 43, unleashed a drink-fuelled tirade against cabin crew which saw him headbutt an attendant while on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Heathrow.

The Mayor of London was flying back from a high-profile trade trip when he tried to intervene.

Morris, of Aldershot, Hampshire, does not remember the incident.

But at an earlier hearing at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court, he admitted assault by beating and being drunk on an aircraft.

The court heard he had consumed a large quantity of alcohol, buying approximately five double whiskies during the flight.

Morris was told he would not be served any more alcohol and started swearing and his behaviour became unruly.

Staff tried to restrain him but he turned violent, the court heard.

The captain decided he would have to be restrained and, as attendant Johari Nordin was trying to place plastic handcuffs on him, Morris headbutted him. Mr Nordin suffered swelling to his upper lip.

The court was told Morris was "horrified" at his behaviour and has no recollection of the flight.

The case was sent to Isleworth Crown Court for sentence, and a court official said Morris had received a total of six months' imprisonment.
