When unexpectedly, Camelot returned on the present world, Merlin is left with the responsibilities of the Old Kingdom all over again, without any clue on how to begin the search to untangle the entire mess that has been happening.
"I felt it slip away from the tip of my fingers, under my surveillance and off into the abyss, where I could not reach it, as I could not reach you. Every time I drowned, I resurfaced with less purpose than before, and you were not there to witness it. No one was. Do not think for only one second that you have any right to police my feelings. You've been doing it forever and I'm sick of it." Merlin felt the tears stinging his eyes, puffed from the fatigue and the sake of arguing, his voice clogged with emotions. And when he thought it could only get worse, Arthur moved an inch from where he was standing, closer to him, as he raised his hand and closed it in a fist, sighing in exhaustion. He dropped both of his arms and huffed, straining those words out of his system.
"I aplogise--Merlin-" And when Arthur clutched him in his embrace, steadily but quickly, Merlin's breath got stuck inside his throat and his chest weighed with the sudden realisation.
