Xbox One fans warned of new Xbox Live outages after December online issues

XBOX ONE fans have been warned there could be more Xbox Live outages on Christmas Day and throughout December after hacker group Lizard Squad claimed to have taken the service down earlier this month.

Xbox Live outage after hacker attack

UPDATE: The hacker group who claimed to have brought down the Xbox Live services twice in December now say they are planning a third for Christmas Day.

A message posted on social media earlier this week promised Lizard Squad would follow through with their plan and which they hoped would bring down the Microsoft asset for good.

"This is not a threat but a promise," the message reads.

"On December 25 aka Christmas, we will tap in to Microsoft and shut down Xbox Live, FOREVER! So enjoy it while it lasts. - Lizard Squad.

A message on the Xbox Live status page still reads some users may still be having trouble downloading certains application, it is not known if this has any connection with the alleged DDOS attack earlier this weekend.

"Are you receiving an error message when attempting to download or launch certain applications? Don’t worry," the post reads.

"We’re working hard to provide a fix as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience, Xbox members. We’ll let you know as soon as we know more."

UPDATE 01:30: In what looks to be a repeat DDOS attack on Xbox Live, Xbox 360 users are now reporting they can no longer access the service, with hacker group Lizard Squad claiming responsibility on Twitter.

"Xbox Live #offline," the post reads, the same tweet that was posted on December 2.

A message on the Xbox Live status page confirms that services on the Xbox 360 are currently limited.

"Are you having issues staying connected to Xbox Live? Don’t worry! We’re working hard to find a fix as soon as we possibly can," the statement reads.

"Thanks for hanging in there while we address this, Xbox members! We’ll update you on our progress in 30 minutes."

Xbox One is currently not affected by the same issues in the UK.

ORIGINAL: Users reported issues with the service at the start of December, the BBC reports that the network came under a DDOS, a distributed denial of service attack.

The service was blocked after being overloaded, leaving users unable to establish an online connection.

As reports started to be posted on social media about difficulties in logging onto Xbox Live, the Lizard Squad account on Twitter (named Lizard Patrol), posted: "XBox Live #offline."

The account then followed up its original message with several stating they were getting ready to stage further online DDOS attacks during the Christmas period.

They tweeted: "Microsoft will receive a wonderful Christmas present from us.
