Villarreal have reached a deal to sign Argentine midfielder Leo Suarez from Boca Juniors, the Spanish outfit announced on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old, who had been linked with a move to Valencia, will pen a five-year contract with Villarreal, pending a successful medical.

A statement on Villarreal's website read: "Pending a medical, Villarreal CF and Club Atletico Boca Juniors have reached an agreement for the transfer of Leonardo Gabriel Suarez, who has signed a contract until June 30, 2020.

"The promising youngster in Argentinian football will play at the South American tournament with Argentina's Under-20 side from January 14 until February 7, 2015, in Uruguay, before joining our Villarreal B side."

A youth product of Boca Juniors, Suarez broke into the Xeinezes' senior squad this season.

Suarez was a key member of Argentina's U17 side that won last year the South American championship.

Moreover, he also played in every game in last year's FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, where Argentina reached the semi-finals.

Villarreal are sixth in La Liga and take on Apollon Limassol in Thursday's Europa League match in Cyprus, needing a win to progress to the knockout round of the European competition.
