Trillanes accuses VP Binay’s camp of bribing witness in Makati building probe

(Updated 3:49 p.m.) Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday accused the camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay of bribing a potential witness in the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall Building II to prevent it from testifying before the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee.

During the subcommittee hearing, Trillanes claimed Binay’s camp has been giving former Makati city engineer Nelson Irasga P10 million for his absence in every hearing.

Binay's camp denied Trillanes' allegation.

“That is another one of his lies. The Binays have never even entertained such options. Trillanes is again making things up,” Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, Binay's spokesperson for political concerns, said in a text message to GMA News Online.

Bribe attempts on Mercado?

Also during the hearing, former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado said friends of the Vice President tried to bribe him to stop his statements against the latter.

Mercado said after he appeared at the second hearing of the subcommittee, their common friends when to him and asked him what he needs.

He said when he appeared again during the fourth hearing, the offer went up.

Mercado said he would not have joined the probe if Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. did not mention his name during the first hearing of the subcommittee.

— LBG/RSJ, GMA News
