Google changes Doodle competition plans due to post office strike

Schools and learners from all over South Africa have just one week to enter the South African Doodle 4 Google competition before entries close on 22nd October.

The Doodle 4 Google competition invites learners of a certain age groups to draw an image under a given theme, and then have their winning Doodle displayed on the Google home page for a day.

The competition is open to primary and high school learners between the ages of six and 17 – learners must create their own Doodle under the theme “South Africa of My Dreams”, which celebrates our country’s 20 years of freedom.

Google is offering to pick up entries from schools who may be unable to use the postal system due to current SAPO strike, as well as for those who don’t have scanners and internet access.

“Once all entries have been collected, local celebrity judges will pick their favourite Doodles across four age categories, before letting the public vote for the country-wide winner to appear on the Google South Africa home page,” says Google.

Doodles can also be uploaded onto the Doodle 4 Google website.

Winners will be selected in each age group category and an overall national winner will be chosen by Google executives at an event to be held in Johannesburg on 29th November 2014.
