Six months after Margie Juico’s resignation, PNoy yet to appoint PCSO chair

Six months after Margarita Juico resigned as Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairperson, President Benigno Aquino III has yet to appoint her replacement.

Aquino said he would have wanted former Cavite Governor Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi to take the post but the latter is facing a case filed against him 10 years ago. The President did not elaborate on the case against Maliksi.

“Mahirap naman na may pending, i-a-appoint mo as head of the office. Sana ma-resolve ‘yung isyu niya,” Aquino said Tuesday evening when asked who will be named as Juico's replacement.

The President gave a media briefing before leaving China to attend the 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Myanmar.

He added that PCSO general manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas II now acts as the temporary chairperson of the agency.

Asked if he is willing to wait until Maliksi’s case is resolved, Aquino said “PCSO has to have that full body.”

He is now thinking of appointing the former Cavite official to another post.

“Baka naman easier to use his talents if we put him in another assignment,” he said, adding that he believes Maliksi  is an honorable person.

“In fairness to him—I saw him recently—sabi niya: ‘Sir, tatanggapin ko naman kung anong assignment ang gusto ninyo, kung makakatulong ako. Kung makakapabigat ako, ‘di ‘wag na lang’ and he emphasized that. (So naisip ko naman), ‘di ba, parang honorableng tao itong kausap mo. Hindi ‘yung desperadong magkaroon ng posisyon,” Aquino said.
